The Colorado River has been flowing for many years covering over 1,450 miles from the Rocky Mountains on through the Grand Canyon ending up at the Gulf of California. Before the construction of the Hoover Dam, the Colorado River flooded low lying regions every spring...as much as 242,000 square miles! Consistent flooding made it difficult to irrigate and by the 1920s it was thought that the river needed to be contained; thus the emergence of the Hoover Dam.
The Colorado River water is obtained right next to the historical London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Seligman Arizona was founded in 1895. At the time, the railroad and Route 66 were synonomous with one another during the 1920s. Route 66 is known as the Main Street of America for it was the major link from Chicago to Los Angeles - diagonally passing through hundreds of rural communities. The construction of Historical Route 66 provided thousands of jobs at a time where it was needed the most...during the Great Depression and World War II ravished years.
